While still hard to get, the PlayStation 5 has been out for well over a year. The list of games continues to grow, and it has finally matured compared to the selection we saw right after the launch date. If you’re still struggling to find the best PS5 games, we’ve done all the hard work and listed them here. Let’s start the fun.

Don’t miss: Sony PlayStation 5 review

The best PS5 games

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

The Final Fantasy franchise continues, but it seems no title has matched the popularity Final Fantasy VII managed to attain back in 1997. Fans have been begging for a remake; one with the graphics and technology worthy of a modern release. We finally got a remake in April 2020, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is easily one of the best PS5 games available, at least for Final Fantasy and RPG enthusiasts.

You’ll be able to relive some of the most iconic moments in your childhood as you fight your way through Midgar and see all your favorite characters in high definition. You’ll have to get used to the new fighting mechanics and active style, but it’s still a fantastic game that will bring back precious memories.

Elden Ring

Fans of fantasy RPGs will also love Elden Ring, one of the latest introductions to the list of role-playing PS5 games. It comes courtesy of Bandai Entertainment, and it offers an intricate experience like no other. The story is impressive, and the title offers complete character creation freedom. There’s also a vast world to explore, and plenty of classes to pick from (Hero, Warrior, Vagabond, Prisoner, Bandit, Samurai, etc.).

Finally got a new PS5? Here are seven things you should do first

Your goal is to get a hold of Elden Ring shards in an effort to become a mighty Elden Lord. As you can see in the trailer, you’ll find no dull moments. Not to mention the graphics, which are as impressive as they get.

Horizon Forbidden West

When it came out in 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed PlayStation 4 games. Now, its sequel Forbidden West is following in its footsteps, offering another engrossing open-world adventure. This time, Aloy will explore “The Forbidden West” — the overgrown ruins of what was once San Francisco.

All is not well in this seemingly gorgeous and vibrant area, however. Massive, fearsome machines roam the land, and an unexplained environmental cataclysm threatens to cause another mass extinction. It’s Aloy’s job to discover the cause and restore balance. Horizon Forbidden West is, without a doubt, one of the best PS5 games around.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

The best PS5 games don’t have to be new titles, necessarily. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a pure testament to this. This duo of games takes you back to the not-to-distant past, offering Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, remastered for PS5 graphics.

Both titles offer the great storytelling and cinematic action you know and love from the Uncharted franchise. As always, you’ll be solving puzzles, taking on adventures, and finding treasures.

Demon’s Souls

Now considered a PlayStation Classic, Demon’s Souls was first released for the PlayStation 3 console. It’s been remastered and rebuilt from the ground up for the latest Sony console, making this one of the best PS5 games.

King Allant, in his quest for power, channels the “Soul Arts” and awakens a demon that brings horrific creatures that roam the now foggy land of Boletaria. You’re a warrior trying to send “The New One” back to where it came from.

Deathloop

A Groundhog Day-esque shooter is probably the best way to describe this PS5 game. Deathloop, as its name implies, has protagonist Colt stuck in a day that endlessly resets. He has to assassinate eight targets on the island before time runs out, but his job will not be easy. Colt has to contend with Julianna a rival assassin whose only mission is to thwart him and keep the cycle going.

To make things more interesting, Deathloop offers many paths you can take. No two days are the same. Better yet, the game offers multiplayer gameplay akin to Dark Souls’ invader phantoms. You can join other players’ campaigns as Julianna and keep them stuck in the Deathloop forever.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo is a staple of every PlayStation console, and the PS5 is no exception. The next-gen console brings with it Gran Turismo 7. This installment of the racing sim pushes realism to the next level with support for 4K visuals. However, it’s also a return to simpler times.

The game is reintroducing the fan-favorite GT Simulation Mode and has changed its interface to resemble older installments. Gran Turismo 7 returns the franchise to its old glory, allowing it to challenge Forza for the racing sim crown finally.

Call of Duty Vanguard

No list of the best PS5 games would be complete without a competent first-person shooting game, and the Call of Duty franchise offers some of the best ones in its class.

Call of Duty Vanguard takes you back to World War II, featuring the story of a group of soldiers from different countries in a “deeply engaging narrative.” You’ll experience iconic battles based on the Eastern and Western Fronts of Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

The Assasin’s Creed franchise continues, successful as ever. And how could it not be? These games offer intriguing stories, an open world of adventure, and action-packed fights. This time Ubisoft is back with Assasin’s Creed Valhalla, and it’s not only one of the best PS5 games, but many claim it’s also one of the best in the lineup.

This game follows the story of a Viking warrior as he leads his people to new places. The RPG mechanics let you forge your future and allow your decisions to change how the story evolves. You can even recruit members and grow your settlement.

FIFA 22

What about sports? There’s no doubt sports games have to be on the list of the best PS5 games, and FIFA titles simply can’t be ignored. Soccer is the most popular sport globally, after all, and FIFA 22 is the hottest soccer game around.

Of course, you’ll get to enjoy everything other FIFA titles offer, including various players, teams, leagues, cups, and more. Graphics and machine learning are incredible, not to mention multiplayer gaming.

The best upcoming PS5 games

We only listed currently available PS5 games on this list, but there are also plenty of great titles to look forward to. Let’s cover some of them.

  • Mass Effect 5 — After the less than stellar Andromeda, the Mass Effect series seems to be returning to its old roots. We still don’t know if Mass Effect 5 will be a direct sequel to any previous installment, but we know that Liara is back.
  • Dragon Age 4 — Bioware’s fantasy franchise will soon be back with its fourth installment in the series. Set in a land ruled by mages, Dragon Age 4 promises that a new hero will emerge — not one foretold by prophecy, but one that will rise to the challenge regardless.
  • God of War: Ragnarök — God of War has become one of the most important Sony Interactive Entertainment franchises, and they’ll be back with a new iteration for the PS5. It follows Kratos and Atreus as they make their way to the Nine Realms.
  • Forspoken — This action RPG takes you through a fantasy land, where you’ll be able to explore, fight monstrous creatures, and try to defeat Tantas. Join the New Yorker Frey as she discovers her new abilities in this unknown land.
  • Gotham Knights — Batman is dead, and criminals are all the rage in Gotham City. Batman’s old friends must stop them!
  • Stray — This indie from Annapurna Interactive will let you play as a cat in a cybercity. It’s an adventure game with some puzzle-platformer elements that remind you of games like Limbo and Inside, except in 3D.

These are our picks for the new and upcoming PS5 games to keep an eye out for; buy your favorites, but not without checking with your friends for gameshare opportunities first. We’ll update this list as games are released, and new titles are announced.
